Weekly Parent Update

Happy Friday! This has been a bizarre week when it comes to weather. Just when we think the sun is going to shine we end up with more snow and rain. Hopefully the upcoming week will hold some relief from the cold and wet weather.

Weekly Attendance Winners

It looked like we were going to have a tie when it came to the class with the best attendance this week until the final day. Congratulations to Ms. Willis’s class for pulling ahead and making sure that they were all here at school this week. Way to go!

Perfect Attendance Challenge (March)

With the start of the new month comes a fresh start to earn perfect attendance and an attendance award! Let’s make this the best month possible when it comes to attendance! This month we will be supporting students and their attendance for the month with Otter Pops…bring on the Spring weather!

Semester One Academic Reviews (March 15th and 21st)

Sandy Grade will be holding Semester One Academic Reviews for students not meeting or making adequate progress towards grade level standards and end of year expectations on March 15th and 21st, 2017 from 3:00 to 7:30 pm.

Semester One Academic Reviews are an opportunity to touch base with the classroom teacher regarding the recent report card, academic growth and achievement, in addition to behavior for students that are of particular concern.

Vision Screenings (March 17th)

Just a friendly reminder that students will have their vision checked on Friday, March 17th. Parents will be notified if there are any concerns or issues pertaining to their child’s vision. If you have questions about this, please contact the front office.

3rd Grade Field Trip (March 17th)

Just a heads up that we have a 3rd grade field trip planned for Friday, March 17th. Students will be traveling to Fort Vancouver. Information should be coming out shortly from the teachers, so please keep an eye out.

OMSI Crime Lab (March 24th)

Fourth and fifth grade students won’t want to be absent on Friday, March 24th as OMSI will be here working with students. Students will get to piece together the evidence of a crime scene and see firsthand how fingerprints, footprints and fibers can help catch a criminal. Topics include forensic science, evidence analysis and analytical thinking.

Spring Break (March 27 – 31)

As we work our way through the month of March, please keep in mind that Spring Break starts Monday, March 27th and runs through the Friday, March 31st. We have a lot of fun filled activities planned the week before break so it is important your child is here in attendance. Every day counts when it comes to learning here at Sandy Grade School!

Science Fair Projects – Grades 3 – 5

For parents of kiddos in grades 3, 4, and 5, please keep an eye out for paperwork on Science Fair projects as it should be coming home shortly. This is a required project and is tied into the science inquiry grade on the report card. Presentations will be on display for parents and other students during the evening of Thursday, April 13th during our school-wide Science Night. If you have questions about the project, please connect with your child’s teacher.

Science Night (April 13th)

Right after Spring Break we are looking forward to our annual Science Fair Night on Thursday, April 13th. This year we will be combining our OMSI Science Fair Night and our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Science Fair presentations into one magnificent night of science. The event will begin at 5:00 pm and run until 8:00 pm. We hope to see you there and all grade levels are encouraged to attend.
