Weekly Parent Update

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind with the 100th Day of School, Read Across America, Classified Appreciation Week, and St. Patrick’s Day. With Spring Break quickly approaching and glimpses of spring starting to appear, we are very excited about the upcoming week and all that we have planned. Check it out below:

Weekly Attendance Winners

A huge shout out for Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Thomson’s class for having the best attendance this week. We are so proud of the effort families and students are putting into showing up for school.

Perfect Attendance Challenge (March)

With the start of the new month comes a fresh start to earn perfect attendance and an attendance award! Let’s make this the best month possible when it comes to attendance! This month we will be supporting students and their attendance for the month with Otter Pops…bring on the Spring weather!

PAWS Assembly (March 21st)

We have our monthly PAWS Assembly scheduled for Tuesday at 1:30pm in the gym where we will honor students that have been displaying our virtue of the month. You won’t want to miss out as students step up to the Wheel of PAWS and spin, spin, spin! If you are planning to attend and wish to take your student home from school early, please stop in at the office before the assembly so we can request your student bring their backpack with them to the gym.

Semester One Academic Reviews (March 21st)

Sandy Grade will be holding Semester One Academic Reviews for students not meeting or making adequate progress towards grade level standards and end of year expectations on Tuesday, March 21st, 2017 from 3:00 to 7:30 pm.

Semester One Academic Reviews are an opportunity to touch base with the classroom teacher regarding the recent report card, academic growth and achievement, in addition to behavior for students that are of particular concern.

OMSI Crime Lab (March 24th)

Fourth and fifth grade students won’t want to be absent on Friday, March 24th as OMSI will be here working with students. Students will get to piece together the evidence of a crime scene and see firsthand how fingerprints, footprints and fibers can help catch a criminal. Topics include forensic science, evidence analysis and analytical thinking.

Spring Break (March 27 – 31)

As we work our way through the month of March, please keep in mind that Spring Break starts Monday, March 27th and runs through the Friday, March 31st. We have a lot of fun filled activities planned the week before break so it is important your child is here in attendance. Every day counts when it comes to learning here at Sandy Grade School!

Science Fair Projects – Grades 3 – 5

For parents of kiddos in grades 3, 4, and 5, please keep an eye out for paperwork on Science Fair projects as it should be coming home shortly. This is a required project and is tied into the science inquiry grade on the report card. Presentations will be on display for parents and other students during the evening of Thursday, April 13th during our school-wide Science Night. If you have questions about the project, please connect with your child’s teacher.

Kindergarten Round Up (April 4th)

Do you know of any kiddos entering kindergarten next year? If so, you won’t want to miss out on our Kindergarten Round Up on Tuesday, April 4th. The event starts at 6:00 pm but the doors will open 15-minutes early to begin the registration and assessment process. Please call the front office if you have any questions.

Science Night (April 13th)

Right after Spring Break we are looking forward to our annual Science Fair Night on Thursday, April 13th. This year we will be combining our OMSI Science Fair Night and our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Science Fair presentations into one magnificent night of science. The event will begin at 5:00 pm and run until 8:00 pm. We hope to see you there and all grade levels are encouraged to attend.
