Weekly Parent Update

We are officially in the month of June and the end of the school year is right around the corner!  We have two full weeks left of school and we still have a lot to accomplish with end of year.  With your help, we know that it will all get done and that the students will excel.

Here is a look at the coming weeks:

5th Grade Visitation to Boring Middle School (June 7th)

In an effort to make the transition to middle school easier on your student for the 2017-2018 school year, we offer to take them on a field trip to tour Boring MS. The tour helps familiarize 5th graders with the campus so they have knowledge and familiarity with the school when the new year starts.  Additional information and permission slips will be sent home with 5th grade students on Monday.  Students that will be attending CRMS will be able to tour the campus and connect with their staff once they relocate to their new building prior to school starting.  Additional information will be coming out on this as the 2017-2018 school year approaches.

Weekly Attendance Winner

Holy cow!  Mrs. Netsch’s class has done it again with having the best attendance in the school.  This is the third week in a row that they have earned this honor.  Great work, students and families, on making sure school is a priority!

Field Day Volunteers

We are in need of Field Day Volunteers.  A flyer went home with all students at the end of last week that talks about the various volunteers that are needed.  Please check your child’s backpack for the flyer.  If you are interested, please email Mrs. Zyla at lauryn.zyla@ortrail.k12.or.us.  We will also post the flyer online for families to reference as well on Monday. We appreciate all the help.

School Library Books are Due!

Please help us in making sure your child has returned all of their SGS library books by the end of May.  We will be working on conducting our end of year inventory so your help returning these to school would be greatly appreciated.

Summer Meal Sites

This summer, meals at no charge are available to all children and teens 1-18 years old. To find the nearest summer meal site, text “FOOD” to 877877 or call 1-866-348-6479 (1-866-3- HUNGRY) or visit www.Summerfoodoregon.org

Lost and Found

Our Lost and Found is overflowing with clothing!  Please encourage your child to check during these last few weeks of school.  All items that are unclaimed at the end of the school year will be donated to our clothing closet.

Preschool Promise – Enrolling for Next Year

Do you know of a kiddo that will be four next year?  We would love to have them here at Sandy Grade School next year for Preschool Promise.  Preschool Promise focuses on developing developmentally appropriate math, reading, and behavior skills for students the year before they enter kindergarten.  Know someone that is interested?  Have them call the office to obtain an application.

Medication

It’s that time of year again…Please pick up any medication you may have brought in for your student during the 2016-2017 school year.  The last day of school is June 16th so any medication left here will be disposed of unless we hear from you.  Please note that students are not permitted to take medication home with them.

Registration for Incoming Kindergarteners

In case you weren’t able to join us for Kindergarten Round Up, please stop in to the front office to pick up a registration packet.

Walking Field Trips

We have a number of walking field trips scheduled for the last month of school.  Please make sure to check your child’s backpack each night so you don’t miss out on any communication home about these wonderful learning opportunities. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.

Are YOU Ready for the PBIS Bobcat Reward Field Trip?

We are working to coordinate another Bobcat Reward Field Trip before the end of the year.  Additional details will soon be announced for the trip prior as we near the month of June.  Once a date and location are set, we will be working on notifying the parents / students that are eligible to attend. If you have questions about the criteria to be eligible for the field trip, please check out our website or in our student handbook.

We hope you have a great week!

Sincerely,

Dr. Rachael George

Principal
