Weekly Parent Update

The end of the 2016-2017 school year is upon us.  We have a full week packed with fun things for students so they won’t want to miss a day!  Check it out!

Field Day (Wednesday)

Our end of year field day for students is scheduled for Wednesday.  Primary grades are scheduled for the AM hours with the intermediate joining in on the fun during the afternoon.  If you would like to volunteer, please call or email Mrs. Zyla.  We can’t wait as the weather looks like it is going to be perfect!

Staff vs Students Kickball (Thursday)

Kids won’t want to miss Thursday as students will be challenging staff to a kick ball game.  This is an annual tradition that they won’t want to miss out on!

End of Year Awards Ceremony (Friday)

Sandy Grade has our end of year awards assembly scheduled for the last day of school, Friday, June 16th.  Kindergarten, first, and second grade will have their awards assembly from 8-9 am while third, fourth, and fifth grade will have theirs from 10-11 am.  During the Awards Assembly we honor students for: Perfect Attendance, Bobcat PRIDE Awards (No YIKES or Referrals), Student Council, Peer Mediators, Alfred Schosnig Memorial Award (top boy and girl in PE from the 5th grade class), James Philips Award (music), Most Improved Student in Reading and Math, our Bobby Bobcat Citizenship Award, and our 5th graders moving on to middle school.  Both awards assemblies will be held in the gym.  Parents and families are more than welcome to attend.

Weekly Attendance Winner

Mrs. Zyla’s class was able to break Mrs. Netsch’s class’s attendance streak by having the best attendance this week. Great job students and families!

School Library Books are Due!

Please help us in making sure your child has returned all of their SGS library books by the end of May.  We will be working on conducting our end of year inventory so your help returning these to school would be greatly appreciated.

Summer Meal Sites

This summer, meals at no charge are available to all children and teens 1-18 years old. To find the nearest summer meal site, text “FOOD” to 877877 or call 1-866-348-6479 (1-866-3- HUNGRY) or visit www.Summerfoodoregon.org

Lost and Found

Our Lost and Found is overflowing with clothing!  Please encourage your child to check during these last few weeks of school.  All items that are unclaimed at the end of the school year will be donated to our clothing closet.

Preschool Promise – Enrolling for Next Year

Do you know of a kiddo that will be four next year?  We would love to have them here at Sandy Grade School next year for Preschool Promise.  Preschool Promise focuses on developing developmentally appropriate math, reading, and behavior skills for students the year before they enter kindergarten.  Know someone that is interested?  Have them call the office to obtain an application.

Medication

It’s that time of year again…Please pick up any medication you may have brought in for your student during the 2016-2017 school year.  The last day of school is June 16th so any medication left here will be disposed of unless we hear from you.  Please note that students are not permitted to take medication home with them.

We hope you have a great week!

Sincerely,

Dr. Rachael George

Principal
