Summer Scholars

We are excited to announce our Summer Scholars program! It is important for students to work on their
academic skills during the summer. Students can lose up to three months of knowledge if they do not practice.
By following the attached schedule for reading and math, students will earn the “Summer Scholars” star and
recognition at our fall assembly in September. In addition, if they choose to do a summer journal about their
activities and adventures for additional practice, they will earn the Summer Writers recognition.

To qualify, students need to complete the required amount of reading, math and writing and have it signed off
weekly by a parent or guardian. For math, students can practice math facts with flashcards. For the writing,
students need to maintain a journal and turn it in at the start of the school year. The required minutes for each
are below:

Reading:
K-2nd Grade- 45 Minutes a week
3rd-5th Grade- 90 Minutes a week

Math:
K-2nd Grade-15 minutes a week
3rd-5th Grade-30 minutes a week

Writing: (Not required to qualify)

Hardcopy forms were sent home the last week of school.  If you lost your form, you can keep track of the work on a separate sheet of paper.
