Our students range in diverse backgrounds and speak at least four languages at home. We also enjoy the benefits of being part of many family traditions as many of our parents (and some grandparents) went to school at Sandy Grade and now see their own children cared and nurtured at Sandy Grade . Our campus is connected to both the Cedar Ridge Middle School campus and the our local pool. Sandy Grade benefits from strong community support. Parent surveys and comments cite the strength of our staff and their knowledge of instruction as one of the main reasons they place their students here.
“Sandy Grade Elementary’s Mission statement is to seek to provide a safe environment that encourages students of all backgrounds to be creative thinkers who are excited about learning and about becoming productive citizens. In addition, we seek to graduate students who will be lifelong, enthusiastic writers who enjoy writing. They will connect writing with everyday experiences and successfully use writing as a purposeful communication tool throughout life.”
For the past five years Sandy Grade has partnered with the distinguished Regie Routman through the Regie Routman in Residence program. This partnership has matched our teachers’ intense desire to serve our students and in a professionally dynamic work place that relies on strong teacher judgement and decision making. Our writing samples exceed standards and support each learner towards independence in reading.
In addition, Sandy Grade’s staff meets in teams weekly to discuss and make decisions about how to best meet students’ needs.
Sandy Grade models professional learning that benefits students and will continue to join with their community to create meaningful, connected learning as the foundation for college and career readiness.
