I am pleased to be joining the staff of Sandy Grade School as the Library/Media Specialist for the 2017-2018 school year. For the last ten years, I have been teaching in the Portland Public School District, first as a classroom teacher and then later in the library. I was born in Portland but moved with my family to Douglas County when I was four years old. As a child, there was nothing I loved more than reading and I continue to be a voracious reader to this day. Not including picture books, I have read 142 books so far this calendar year!
I will be splitting my time this year between Sandy Grade School on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and Naas Elementary on Mondays and Wednesdays. I look forward to teaching your child library skills, research skills, and information literacy skills. In 2017, the library is so much more than just the physical space and book collection. With the power of new technology and the internet, we are living in the information age and it is the job of the Library/Media Specialist to teach students how to access accurate information and navigate the online world safely. This is my passion and I hope to bring that passion to your child. It is going to be an exciting year!
