Oregon Trail School District has been awarded $50,000 to create a new fitness center at Cedar Ridge Middle School.
A 3500 square foot room, previously used as a wrestling room when Sandy High occupied the facility, will be renovated as a fitness center – providing the school with additional space for physical education and health courses. The school’s PE and Health teachers developed a plan for utilizing the room to support their instruction and to offer alternatives such as strength training and aerobics. The fitness center will also provide space for middle school sports teams to train and compete, and could support after-school fitness enrichment programs.
The fitness center grant was awarded through Clackamas County Public Health’s new Blueprint for a Healthy Clackamas County Community Grants program. The program supports community-driven projects that work to implement goals identified in the Blueprint for a Healthy Clackamas County report. The Cedar Ridge Fitness Center is projected to open in September 2019.
