Dear Cedar Ridge Middle School Community,

On behalf of the staff at Cedar Ridge, I am excited to welcome you to the 2017-18 school year. We hope you are enjoying the last bits of summer and anticipating the start of a new and exciting year. I feel both honored and privileged to continue to be your principal and to work with our highly qualified and dedicated staff, our wonderful students, and all of the supportive parents and community members that make this a great school. At CRMS we are committed to keeping student achievement and individual growth our highest priorities. With this, we are committed to partnering with you, offering a well-rounded education, developing character, and providing engaging academic challenges for all CRMS students. First, we are beyond excited about the big move to our renovated CRMS campus later this fall. Our start date at the new Cedar Ridge campus on Bluff Road will be November 27th, after Thanksgiving break. While we had hoped to start the year in the new campus, we are still excited about moving and the opportunities and promise the facility holds for our students and staff.

We continue to be very pleased with the success of our Advisory program and are excited to continue the course for all CRMS students. This course focuses on individual goal setting and progress monitoring, organization and study skills, character education and community building lessons, as well as provides school-wide academic support, literacy, and vocabulary lessons. One important part of our Advisory class is the Student Organizer/Agenda checks. All students will be required to purchase and carry an agenda to each class, every day. Here they will record daily classwork and homework assignments. You can help your child succeed by setting aside some time every week to connect with your child regarding their work and sign the space provided in their agenda. This will ensure that we are all committed to upholding academic excellence at CRMS.

In addition, we are excited to implement a new science curriculum as well as additional support classes for math and literacy. Our goal is to provide a positive, challenging, and supportive academic environment in order to guide students towards success and college/career readiness at the high school level. The high state standards will continue through middle and high school, and holding students accountable for their continued academic progress is crucial in their success. We appreciate your support in ensuring your student is attending school every day and by regularly connecting with your student’s teachers. Yearlong Communication:

  • Progress Reports emailed every 3 weeks
  • Ongoing parent emails, phone calls and meetings as requested/needed
  • Regular Education teachers in attendance at IEP meetings
  • Counselor and teacher consultation regarding 504 updates as needed


  • Open House – August 30th from 5:00-7:30pm
  • Targeted communication from teachers/counselor/administration to parents we would like to meet with in October.
  • Evening group meeting for students placed on an Academic Watch/Teacher Mentor program.
  • Time set aside for drop in Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences:
    • Last Names A-L: Wednesday, November 1th from 1:45 – 4:00pm, 4:30-7:00pm
    • Last Names M-Z: Wednesday, November 8th from 1:45 – 4:00pm, 4:30-7:00pm.

It is not too late! Drop your registration packets off at the front office or bring your packet to Open House. Included in this mailing are important registration papers. Please carefully read the Registration Directions and fill out these forms prior to sending in or dropping of your child’s registration.



Pictures will be taken during the second week of school on Tuesday, September 12th.  Retakes will be the following month on October 18th. Picture packets will be available at Open House or you can pick up packets at the front desk. Please also note the following:

  • Student Organizers/Agenda’s: All students MUST have an Agenda. Agendas are $5 and must be purchased at the time of registration.
  • PE Uniforms: Our goal is for ALL students to have a PE Uniform for when we tranistion into the new facility. If you have already submitted a PE uniforms order for your child, you do not need to submit a new one. If you need an order form, they will be available at Open House and at the front office. All PE uniforms will be processed and ordered in October.
  • School Spirit Gear: Due to the transition from the Storm to the Mountaineers, we will hold off to place orders for school spirit gear until October.
  • Athletics: We are able to offer wrestling and track for 6th graders at this time. For 7th and 8th graders we are able to offer volleyball, basketball, wrestling, and track. Proof of insurance, a physical (good for two years), signed Code of Conduct, and $55 athletic fee are required for participation. To help create a positive experience for our new students and parents we have created an Open House program that includes student schedule pick up, locker assignments, Student Handbook and Agenda and Pride Shirt pick up, informational booths in the gymnasium, and an opportunity to meet your child’s teachers. Please attend the open house on August 30st from 5-7:30pm. Student class schedules will be available by 5:15pm. This is also a wonderful time to ask questions and listen to helpful responses from our staff. Schedule changes, if needed, will be postponed until the first day of school.



District-wide all students will be starting on the first day of school September 5th. ASB and Student Council students will be supporting our 6th grader during their 1st day by helping with directions, lockers, bathrooms, getting to lunch, and finding their buses at the end of the day.  Due to safety concerns we ask that you drop students off in front of our parking lot on Pleasant Street. 1st period will begin at 7:40 am. Students are not allowed into the building until 7:20am. Once students arrive at school they are to remain on campus, and they will need to wait near the flag pole, in the gym or the cafeteria until they are released to their lockers. School ends at 2:25 pm. Students are expected to ride the bus, walk home, or get picked up unless they have a note from a parent or legal guardian.



We strongly encourage all of our families to join our Parent Teacher organization. Our kick-off meeting will take place before school begins in August. Please check our website or the PTC Facebook page for specifics. We are eager to see returning and new faces this year. Fundraising is paramount to the success of CRMS and we hope you will help support our programs and events throughout the year. When a fundraising event surfaces please consider supporting it through donations or time as it helps support our number one priority, your children. You can make a huge difference! Get involved.
