We are gearing up for another great year at Sandy Grade!

We have mailed out our Student Verification Report for the 2018-2019 school year which will need to be reviewed by you and updated, signed on the back with a date and returned to the office.  Also an End of Day Information Form will need to be completed and turned in.  These two forms can be brought to the office during the Ice Cream Social or on the first day of school.  Please keep an eye out for these forms and information in the mail in the coming days.

Ice Cream Social and Open House

Please join the staff of Sandy Grade in our annual Ice Cream Social and Open House on Thursday, August 30th from 5:00-6:30 pm.   During this time, we will have free ice cream and the school will be open for you to take a look in the classrooms before September 4th.  We believe that “seeing is believing” and we want to open our doors to families so they can see first hand all the wonderful staff and classrooms we have here at SGS.  Teachers and staff will be available to answer questions you might have about the upcoming year.  Teacher assignments will be announced during this time.

Free Breakfast for ALL Students

We want to help make sure that all of our students have full bellies and are ready to learn when they start school each morning.  Therefore, we offer free breakfast to ALL students. Breakfast runs from 7:20 am to 7:35 am down in the cafeteria.  We hope that each of our students take advantage of this great opportunity.

Bus Transportation

Student Transportation of America (STA) provides bus transportation for Oregon Trail School District.  The Bus Barn can be reached at (503) 668-8855 to answer any questions you have regarding bus stops and routes.

Fostering a strong connection between home and school is of the utmost importance to us.  One way in which we approach this is by working hard to make sure you know what is going on in the school environment.  Here are some of the ways we communicate with families:

  • Weekly Parent Updates on Friday – posted on website and e-mailed to parents
  • Daily website updates, including our calendar
  • Facebook under Sandy Grade School – Oregon Trail School District
  • Twitter @SandyGrade_OTSD
  • E-mails through Constant Contact – please help us with this by providing a current e-mail address during registration
  • ParentVUE – online gradebook to check for missing work and assignment scores

Please know that we try as much as possible to post information online instead of sending home hard copy documents to help conserve costs and minimize the impact on the environment.  However, we do try to make an effort to print items for families when possible.

School Spirit – Wear Blue Fridays

We are all about Bobcat Spirit here!  As a way to promote and increase student pride and spirit, we encourage staff and students to wear blue on Fridays.  If your student has a Sandy Grade School shirt, this would be a great time to wear it as they show a little pride.  If they don’t, it is ok…just wear blue!  In case we don’t have school on Friday, we will always be sporting our school colors on the last school day of the week.  Join us in supporting the bobcat pride!

Dress Code

Shopping for new school clothes?  Here are some helpful things to keep in mind:  We do not allow clothing that might interfere with or disrupt the learning environment.  This means that families need to make sure shorts are at or below fingertips and mid-driffs are not showing.  Shirts or tank tops with spaghetti straps are not allowed as well.  Finally, students are encouraged to not wear flip flops, open toed shoes or shoes with a heel due to the high number of injuries we have observed over the past several years.

Enjoy the rest of summer!  We can’t wait to see you on Tuesday, September 4th when all students return to school or on August 30th at the Ice Cream Social and Open House.  In the meantime, if you have any questions or need any assistance, please don’t hesitate to give us a call, stop by, or drop us an e-mail.
