Educational objectives
Grades K-2 – every child learning to read.
Grades 3-5 – every child reading to learn.
Grade 5 – every child at grade level or better in math.
-
Digital devices and learning tools are used thoughtfully to support personalized learning and complement our teachers in order to make personalized learning possible and is balanced with daily handwriting, Applied Critical Extension (ACE) time, collaborative experiences and more to ensure that students are ready for advanced content.
-
Yes, all digital tool usage, including student Chromebooks, is monitored through GoGuardian to ensure online safety and appropriate use, and ClassLink to track screen time.
-
K–5 students log on for three individual sessions per day (not to exceed 25-minutes each), one each for support in reading, language arts and math. Student screen time does not exceed these specified periods, totaling 75 minutes per school day out of 7 total hours. There are also direct hands-on activities such as Lego Robotics or Applied Critical Extension (ACE).
Screen time in our school district is carefully monitored for both duration and educational value using ClassLink Analytics. We track when students log on, the sites they visit, and when they log off.
-
General Education students use Chromebooks, while a small number of iPads are also available for students with specific IEP accommodations.
-
No. Chromebooks and digital resources are used as learning tools and only for focused academic activities.
-
Digital learning tools use the "3 D's": Dedicated to learning, Directed toward specific learning outcomes, and leading to Durable learning that extends beyond the digital environment.
-
OTSD uses the HMH Into Reading curriculum across K–5 classrooms, alongside ECRI and UFLI in grades K–2. These curricula are taught daily through direct instruction.
Grades K–2 utilize Project Read to support personalized learning in reading and spelling, while grades 3–5 use Edmentum Exact Path to reinforce reading comprehension and language arts skills.
-
OTSD uses STEMscopes Math for daily in-person classroom instruction across grades K–5.
Grades K–3 use Heliomath as a supporting tool to identify gaps and personalize mathematical progression.
Grades 4–5 use Edmentum Exact Path to support targeted math learning.
-
Project Read does not use Large Language Models (LLMs) or AI chatbots. Student feedback and instruction are not generated by AI.
Project Read instead utilizes speech-recognition technology to check pronunciation accuracy, then provides pre-built, expert-designed resources to guide each student. Students do not interact with generative AI, and all feedback is standardized.
-
Heliomath does not use Large Language Models or AI chatbots. It employs visual processing technology to evaluate foundational skills like spatial reasoning and subitizing, helping identify where students need additional help. All instruction and feedback are pre-built by educators; students never interact with generative AI.
-
Edmentum Exact Path does not use AI. Students complete a diagnostic assessment to identify specific learning needs, and the system assigns targeted lessons to address gaps or provide enrichment.
